Oct 27 - Message to Families

Good afternoon! Today is Weds, Oct 27 and these are the weekly announcements for all Raiders and their families.

1.Tomorrow and Friday, students will have the opportunity to purchase a slice of Pizza from Mr. Vincent’s crew in the Tech Lab. Slices are $1 each. Some cookies are also available at 2/50 cents.

Students can only purchase on one of the two dates.

Thursday, Oct 28 is for Day B cafeteria students

Friday, Oct 29 is for Day A cafeteria students

We hope to make this a regular event at RVMS as a continuation of the Pizza business run by Gr. 8 students over the past several years.

2.Friday, October 29 is Black and Orange Day at RVMS. We are also running a revised schedule and having a school wide Bingo during the last period of our day. Students may bring treats to share with their classmates. Treats must be nut-free and individually pre-packaged. No homemade treats please (due to Covid).

3.Tryouts for school Badminton are next week. Students had time this week to sign-up. This is open to all Gr. 6 students and to Gr. 7 & 8 students who are fully vaccinated (as per provincial guidelines). Once the teams are chosen, regular practice will be on Wednesdays during ASAP ending at 3:30. Students will need to arrange drives. Team rosters will be posted on the gym doors following tryouts next week. Tryout schedule is:

Mon, Nov 1 -  Grade 6

Weds, Nov 3 – Grade 7

Thurs, Nov 4 – Grade 8

4.We are very excited to be planning for a return of our Activity Period next week. This will mean that our school day continues to 3:10 but some students may have the privilege of leaving early (2:35) or going to an activity. Some students may be assigned to Workroom during this time.

We have an early bus run for this, but it is only available to students who live in Grand Bay-Westfield between the intersection of the Brittain Rd/Nerepis Road and Foodland. Students living further from the school, as has always been the case, will need to plan to go to an activity each day. Stay tuned for an updated ASAP schedule!!

5. Winter is coming! We know that Middle School students are notoriously reticent to wear winter clothing. However, we plan to continue to be outside as much as possible. From Monday, Nov1 until the end of March, all students are expected to be dressed for winter weather and must have a second layer, a hoodie or jacket, to wear outside.

6. Parent/Teacher meetings will be online again this year. Stay tuned for updates!

As always, please feel free to contact me at the school if you have questions or concerns.

Ms. T. McGrath
